Obituary of Gordon R. Austin

Gordon R. Austin 69, passed away on February 23, 2023 at Lakeland Regional Hospital

He was born in Ann Arbor, MI to Gordon W. Austin and Mildred E. Hover Austin on November 30, 1953. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was married and divorced with no children.

Gordon attended schools in Winter Haven achieving academic honors. He graduated in 1977 from the University of Florida with a degree in pharmacy where he was in Kappa Psi Fraternity. He was a Pharmacist/Manager with a successful track record of almost 40 years practicing in areas of mail service/managed care, long-term care, retail and hospital pharmacy. He was a pharmacist and consultant pharmacist and had licenses in Florida and Michigan.

Gordon played sports, particularly football and baseball until a severe knee injury in his youth ended any future plans. He loved riding motorcycles, owned a total of 5 over his lifetime. He enjoyed traveling across this country, including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as other countries. Key West was one of his favorite places, including deep sea fishing.

He loved animals, especially dogs. Gordon enjoyed collecting unusual items, considering his home a museum of his life. He loved good food and laughter. He enjoyed being near, on and in the water.

He mentored many people throughout his life in his field of pharmacy and personal finance.

Services to be held in Winter Haven at Oak Ridge Funeral Home and to be interred at Lakeside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to:
