Obituary of Charles Gugino

Charles J. Gugino passed away peacefully at his home on December 6, 2022 at the age of 100.

 

Charles is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Janice Thompson Gugino, his children Sandra Mathis, Deborah Mosely (Bob McKeague), Cheryl Steele and Jerry Gugino (Cherylyn). Charles is also survived by 4 grandchildren & 4 great-grandchildren. 

 

Charles entered the service in June of 1943. He served our country in the US Army Air Force as a flight engineer in WWII for 3 years.  Charles graduated from Geneva College. He coached basketball and baseball, taught Drivers Education and Social Studies at Harbrack, Highlands and Freeport High Schools in Pennsylvania.  His basketball coaching career included eight W.P.I.A.L Championships. Chuck was inducted into the Allegheny-Kiski Valley Sports Hall of Fame.

 

Chuck and Jan retired to Floral Lakes in Bartow, Florida in 1982. He was an avid tennis player and enjoyed golf. He participated in the Polk Senior Games and served on the Polk Senior Games board for 20 years. He also worked with Dr B supervising high school tennis matches.  Charles served on the Floral Lakes HOA board for several years.

 

Chuck’s true passion was coaching his ball players and teaching his students. He loved his family and had a very wonderful life.

The family will be having a private ceremony at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL where he will be laid to rest.
