Obituary of George Thomas Wood

George Thomas Wood, Sr of Haines City, Florida, passed away on November 17, 2021, surrounded by his loving family, at the VA Lake Nona Hospital in Orlando, Florida. He was born November 13, 1945, in Gainesville, Florida to Helen (Carlson) Wood. He graduated in 1963 from Hutchinson Central Technical High School in Buffalo, New York and entered military service in 1965. He served with the US Army in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967. On September 9, 1967, he married Carol Genter in Danby, New York. Together they entered The Salvation Army School for Officers Training the following year. He served as an Officer until 1979 with assignments in Winsted, Torrington & Norwich Connecticut. He received an Associates Degree from Mohegan Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology from Western Governors University. George worked at Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut for 21 years and then as a private contractor for Lockheed Martin, Pfizers, and Hamilton Sundstrand. He retired in 2012. George is survived by the love of his life, Carol. They recently celebrated 54 years of marriage. Survivors include three children; George (Kelly) Wood, Cheryl Wood, and Amy (Jonathan) Hardin; seven grandchildren; Chelsea Perryman, Alexander (Melissa) Wood, Cade Perryman, Clayton Perryman, Brendan Wood, Andrew Hardin and Jason Hardin, and Great Grandson, Liam Wood. George is also survived by life-long friends, Frances and Richard Beach. He is survived by brothers Paul, Theodore, William, Kevin, Kenneth and his sister Sharon. He was predeceased by his mother and brother Mitchell. His family was the focus of his life. Nothing meant more to him than his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchild. He enjoyed spending time with his family, brass music and fishing. Memorial Services will be held at a later date in Connecticut
