Obituary of Diana Mae Lathrop

Diana M. (Frith) Lathrop, 78, of Chelsea, Maine, passed away unexpectedly in Florida, on April 20, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 28, 1946, in Gardiner, Maine, to the late William O. Frith, Sr. and Grace M. Parlin, Diana was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. 

Diana's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a member of various churches over the years, including Christ Episcopal Church in Gardiner, Maine; Faith Baptist Church in Newcastle, Maine and Westside Baptist Church in Haines City, FL.  

In addition to her roots in Maine, Diana was also a seasonal resident for 17 years at Heartland RV Park, Haines City, FL, enjoying the change of pace and scenery during those times. 

In her professional life, Diana worked for the National Bank in Gardiner, Maine during her younger years. She dedicated over 22 years of service to the State of Maine, working in the following departments: Motor Vehicles, Corporations, and Elections, retiring in 1997. 

Diana found joy in her younger adult years snowmobiling, cake decorating,  painting ceramics, crocheting, and quilting. After retiring she enjoyed gardening, going to the beach, attending her grandchilrens’ sporting events, playing the aggravation marble game, card games, and socializing during pool hours. She and Bill had recently learned to play cribbage.  

She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister; and her fur baby, Scotia. Diana is survived by her loving husband, of 58 years, William (Bill) A. Lathrop; Daughter, Becky (John) Rugan of Chelsea, Maine and Son,  Cory (Maureen) Lathrop of Sidney and Eagle Lake, Maine; special nephew, Lee (Kathie) Buzzell of China and Eagle Lake, Maine; siblings, Edith Weymouth and Bill (Cindy-Lou) Frith; grandchildren, Brianna Nirza, Shelby (Dave) Kelley, Nicole (John) Darcy, and Jake (Chelsea) Lathrop; and nine great grandchildren. 

In lieu of flowers contributions will be sent to a non-profit dear to Diana’s heart.  

A celebration of life will be held June 1st in Newcastle at Faith Baptist Church. Time TBD.
